One argument that really hit home with me that I never considered is that the youth of today might side with the abolitionist or the slaves. Most people that argue against teaching the truth of history is that the white children learning will associate themselves the slave owner because they are white. What if they ally themselves with the people owned or the people that fought against owning people?

People that attack “critical race theory” obviously assume that their child might feel like they can empathize with the slaves or the abolitionist. Today’s children are much more open minded when it comes to race and acceptance of others.

I can remember my own history of learning history of the American Civil War and never once thinking that I would be on the side of the Confederacy. Yes, that was me and I was poor so I never fathomed that my ancestors might have owned people.

I assumed they were as poor as can be like I was and am.

I think the loss of the control of their children by education is at the root of most of the crazy parents who try to censor and ban books.

You cannot control how your child reacts to learning things and that is the root of the love of ignorance, I think.
