The greatness of this union can also be its undoing. The chaos and messiness of the revolution that shaped the civil war less than 100 years later makes for the diverse ideas and wants of now. We desire to stand as one in a representative democracy that elects our leaders, but the scars and old ideas of the past still haunt us.
