The state of my multiple sclerosis, MS, will dictate how I see how I did this year. A change in bladder issues changed much of my daily life. I have a neurogenic bladder, defined by the Cleveland Clinic as

“Neurogenic bladder is a condition in which problems with the nervous system affect the bladder and urination. Conditions like stroke and Parkinson’s disease can result in a neurogenic bladder. Treatment options include drug therapy and surgery.”

Self-catheterization is the approach I am taking to fully drain my bladder and stop any reflux into my kidneys that can cause partial and full renal failure. My Kidney function is already impacted by my diabetes that will likely result in dialysis in the future. That prospect is frightening, but so were the chances of self-catheterization at one time.

Now I self-catheterize at least five times a day with almost constant UTIs as the only issue.

Remember what I warned about the abnormal things we normalize, yes that applies HERE.

I can’t cause much of fuss about this change though.

As I am still 75% of a functional person in my estimates, and lord knows that I am much more grateful about life now.

The appreciation is worth its weight in gold.
