On this eve of Christmas, we stand as the whole that was a year ago as a family. Now, we are one less and motherless. Yet, we will still be happy and celebrate the day we championed as such a fun time my entire life.

We faced the same without her mom, our beloved granny, over 30 years ago. Her demise much closer to the holidays was felt, but still we celebrated what we left here then. We must see that we are still whole and still can be happy without showing disrespect or hardheartedness as we revel in our traditions.

Those mores shaped much of my most prized childhood memories of waking up and being a family so early in the mornings. Working with family to honor and show camaraderie with my brothers and mom in ways that made us stronger as a household then and will now.

This family existed because of our matriarch, and we will live out her wishes for a happy festive holiday forever.

One day we will not have to say we are doing it “for mom,” but that will be then, and this is now.

For Mom.

(P.S. Happy my first COVID vaccination for me anniversary! 🥳)
