Diabetic Cyborg Life 4/22: The Pine Curtain Part 1

This concept came up in my discussions of why my mother was special in raising and teaching us how to be more humane than most. Talking to Eric Griggs, I mentioned the phrase “the pine curtain.” That idea being that this area in east Texas is called the piney woods of east Texas, and the common phrase of the “iron curtain” of the cold war created this idea.

“The pine curtain” is much more common with the generation of my older brothers, yet I was exposed to and agreed with most of their ideas and concepts. Again, a reason I empathize and feel as a Gen Xer at heart. This pine curtain is just as the iron curtain was, a division of sexists, racists, political and social norms and ideas.

Just as the eastern European ideas were closer to the old USSR. These beliefs behind the pine curtain here are closer to the Confederacy. Still, and “conservative” ways of the old Dixiecrats and Republicans.

Some ideas of liberty, civil rights, enfranchisement and democracy just don’t always apply here.

This will take a while to properly talk out here so more will follow, stay tuned!
