The Tragedy of the Chronically Ill
We do not choose this life,
We only try to live as “normal” functioning people,
But our bodies fail us in so many unseen ways.
We might look perfectly normal and healthy,
But internally our bodies are broken.
We did not want to be limited in the ways we live,
And choose to be over fixated on the mundane details of everyday life,
We only desire what everyone want in life.
To be content at home,
Be productive at work,
And loved by family and a companion for life.
We survive and appear to be holding it together,
An unseen turmoil in our heads and in our bodies,
It can wreck everything we desire,
But don’t feel sorry,
No sympathy for us,
Just use empathy to feel when our physiological issues are afoot,
Chronic diseases are taking a toll on our beings.
Our tragic lives are not for not.
We can rise and inspire others to elevate ourselves as better people,
We can with stand any barriers life presents along the way.
We always have hope to cling to like a baby that someone is try to rip away.
Hope is enough to get us through it all,
And will get us to our journey’s end,
Like it has millions of the people before.
