The whole “welfare queen” trope was part of the GOP and Reagans racist take down of one person that was paying the system. Yes, people like that are out there, but there are also millions of people that suffer and need assistance. That trope was just to get the bigoted folks to resent that one person could do that.

We need to recognize that the invisible silent people that need help cannot get PAC money to back their causes since there is not a windfall of profits to be gained. At least here we can have the illusion of telling our stories and mattering. Our needless suffering is sad and needs to be ackowleged.
